MakeTruck: RePurpose Module

The RePurpose Module is an assortment of tools and materials for taking discarded objects and using them for new purposes. Makers can bring their discarded appliances and e-waste to be opened, dismantled, understood, and then re-assembled into new devices or just plain Art. An abundance of junk today provides excellent learning opportunities as Makers get to "see inside" devices and understand how they work. Removal of components and subassemblies teaches basic skills with hand tools and familiarity with common products. Instruction to source materials and manufacturing process teaches the importance of ReCycling and natural resource conservation.

Tools:

• TMD (Tools of Mass Destruction), cutters, hacksaw, screwdrivers, hex and torx, pliers and priser.
• safety gear, goggles, gloves, aprons, earplugs?
• storage for good parts harvest, reference index, recycling info.
• TMA (Tools of Mass Assembly) hot glue, rivets, epoxy, screws, screw gun

Materials:

Most materials will be gathered from dismantled objects, so mostly storage containers for sorting and saving from one show to the next.

Projects:

Depending on the supplied objects, each object will bring its own teaching objective: Tracing the flow of electricity through a toaster or hairdryer, the path of paper through a printer, loading mechanism of a CD player, etc.
